1. Permanent, part-time (30 hrs/wk) Marketer/Educator

Summary: This dual position, under the supervision of the Executive Director, will require an enthusiastic, energetic, knowledgeable, flexible, organized person with superior people and computer skills. Person must also be comfortable with handling a variety of animal life (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects). 1 Saturday/month and occasional after school and evening hours required.

As the Marketer (60% of the position) employee will maintain website and relevant social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and others. Will also develop flyers, save the dates, tickets, and contact media and membership for fundraisers. Send weekly email blasts and press releases and maintain accurate and up to date email distribution lists. Develop/update and coordinate mailing of the quarterly newsletter. Promote Tanglewood Nature Center to the community through TV, newspaper and public appearances. Occasionally conduct research/surveys to provide ideas and suggestions for marketing and programming initiatives, report on social media usage, website traffic and other key initiatives. Coordinate calendar of marketing events based on quarterly and annual initiatives.

As the Educator (40% of the position) and in coordination with other education staff, employee would plan and implement programming for Preschool through adult audiences around a variety of environmental and ecological themes. The educator will assist with the evaluation and improvement of existing programs and plan and propose new programs to further the mission of Tanglewood. The educator will also serve as a resource for accurate environmental education to the public.

Additional duties will include attending monthly Board and committee meetings and assisting with special events and activities during the course of the year.

Education required: BS/BA preferably in the sciences or marketing/communications with interest in nature

Supervisor: Directly responsible to Executive Director.

Hours/Salary for Position: 30 hours/week, $15.00/hr. Sick/vacation/personal time after 90 days, no health benefits. One position available.

2. Permanent part-time (25 hours/week)
Educator/Co-Summer Camp Director

Summary: The Educator/Summer Camp Co-Director reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for presenting educational programming to both children and adults as well as coordination and supervision of Tanglewood’s summer camps. Educator will be responsible for on and off-site programming, including: curriculum, teaching and safely handling animals, keeping track of scheduling, and communicating regularly with all Tanglewood staff. Must maintain a fun and safe environment for the participants.

Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age or older and have a clean driving record and able to pass a background check. Must be available to work varied hours on Mondays – Fridays during the times of 8:30am- 5:30pm (with occasional programs in the evenings) and 1 Saturday/month as well as when organization holds fundraisers. Summer hours will increase to 30 hours/week for approx. 10 weeks.

Qualifications: 2- or 4-year degree in the sciences, preferably environmental science or biology-related degree. Previous work at a summer camp or nature center and/or other education experience with large groups of children and/or adults. Must enjoy working with people of all ages and abilities and be comfortable handling live animals of all types (arthropods, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, birds).  Should also have a general knowledge of New York ecosystems and love for the outdoors. Outgoing and energetic personality and someone who is flexible, organized, quick-learning, mature, able to work without supervision and trustworthy is a must.

Nature Center and Museum hours: OPEN Tuesday-Friday, 9am-4pm, and Saturday 10am-4pm. CLOSED Sunday-Monday. Trails are open dawn to dusk year-round.
